Camping Christmas Tasmania

Christmas is the busiest time for camping in Tasmania, from mid-December through until after the Australia Day long weekend in late January and the first week of February. Countless numbers of people from interstate, and also Tasmania travel to the most popular campsites around Christmas Day through to New Year’s Day thinking they’ll find a prime waterfront campsite at Bay of Fires, Freycinet, Waterhouse Point, the Tasman Peninsula, and Bruny Island – it simply won’t happen! You can, for example, camp for free at Bay of Fires for up to 4-weeks meaning people (mostly locals) arrive in early to mid-December and set up their caravans, tents, and camper trailers. We strongly recommend you reconsider plans to go camping in Tasmania over the Christmas New Year period at Tassie’s most popular campsites. We recommend you either go camping in November or wait until February March if you prefer camping in warmer weather. Please also note, that many of Tasmania’s most popular campsites don’t take bookings – all camping is on a first-come, first-served basis. Also, to camp in National Parks, you must have a valid Tasmania National Parks Pass.
