The Black River campground North West Tasmania is located app. 2 kilometres west of Peggs Beach camping area, and is a fantastic campground and very popular for fishing. At the Black River camping area you will find lots of secluded, grassed and sheltered camping spots – a camper self-registration applies. Black River Camping is located 15 minutes drive west of Hellyer Beach. There is a lot of birdlife in this area including Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoos.  Campsites at Black River are mostly secluded and located in coastal vegetation next to the Black River estuary near the small farming and agricultural town of Smithton in the far North-West of Tasmania. There is safe swimming at nearby Brickmakers Beach and a boat-launching ramp into the river. Black River Campground is part of a 208-hectare conservation area located between Stanley and Rocky Cape National Park. It includes beachfront and coastal vegetation of the lovely Peggs Beach, from the Black River inlet to the Little Peggs Beach State Reserve. Excellent camping is also available at the nearby Peggs Beach campground – there are 4WD boat-launching areas at both camping sites. This is a popular fishing location, and popular campsite over the Christmas New Year holiday period, at Easter and on long weekends. The toilets at Black River campground are very good, and there is tank water that must be boiled before drinking. The area is patrolled by a ranger who checks that camping fees have been paid.
